Custom Gym Shorts Manufacturing Guide for Private Labels

Plan custom gym shorts with the right inseam, liner, waistband, drawcord, pockets, fabric, ventilation, branding and movement tests.

Choose the Gym Short Format

Start by defining training use and silhouette. A lightweight running-style short, woven lifting short, knit training short and two-in-one lined short require different patterns, fabrics and construction.

Specify fit as close, regular or relaxed with measured waist, hip, rise, thigh, inseam and leg opening. Reference images help, but measurements prevent the sample from depending on interpretation.

Decide on Liner and Gusset

A built-in liner may provide support and coverage, but the buyer must define length, compression, fabric and attachment. Review the liner during squats, lunges and running to detect riding, restriction or visible edges.

An unlined short may use a gusset or shaped crotch for mobility. Map the seam layout early because it affects comfort, material use and pocket construction.

Design Waistband and Drawcord

Confirm waistband height, elastic width and extension. An internal drawcord creates a clean exterior, while an external cord can become a visible design element. Specify cord length, eyelets, ends and attachment.

Test stability with realistic pocket loads. A waistband that fits when empty may slip when a phone or keys are added.

Specify Pockets Fabric and Ventilation

State whether pockets hold a phone, card, key or only small items. Zippered pockets add security but require placement that avoids pressure during lifting or floor work.

Review fabric weight, stretch, abrasion, drying and opacity. Laser-cut ventilation, mesh panels or perforations need approved locations and edge quality on the finished sample.

Approve Branding and Performance

Place logos away from folds, pocket openings and high-abrasion areas unless the application has been tested there. Evaluate seam strength, drawcord security, zipper function and dimensional change before bulk approval.
