Count the Real Number of SKUs
A collection with five styles, four colors and six sizes creates 120 sellable SKUs before packaging or regional variants are considered. This multiplication is easy to miss when a mood board presents colors and products separately.
List every style-color-size combination and the planned units for each. Compare that matrix with garment and fabric minimums before promising the range.
Choose Hero Styles First
Start with products that express the brand and serve the same customer. A coordinated legging, bra and top can share content and color direction more efficiently than unrelated yoga, tennis and men's products in one small order.
Keep construction variations controlled. New fits, trims and fabrics each create additional approval and quality risk beyond the visible SKU count.
Use Core and Test Colors
Give the deepest quantity to core colors supported by customer evidence. Limit experimental shades or use stock fabric routes where they fit the product standard. Custom dyeing may require material commitments larger than the garment order.
Coordinate colors only when the actual fabrics can be matched. A shade can appear different across nylon, polyester, rib and mesh surfaces.
Build an Evidence-Based Size Ratio
Use prior sales, preorder data, comparable products or a clearly stated market assumption. Do not spread units evenly across sizes unless evidence supports it. Review whether the base pattern and grading serve the intended customer range.
Protect enough depth in common sizes to avoid advertising products that are immediately unavailable. Track returns and fit comments separately from sales.
Design for Reorders
Keep style codes, fabric references, colors, size charts, artwork and packing stable for successful products. Ask which materials are repeatable and what lead time applies to replenishment before selecting the launch route.
CCLIYA can compare ready-stock branding and full-custom development routes for focused activewear collections. Send the SKU matrix, quantity by color and size, launch date and branding scope for review.
