Turn Marketing Words Into Testable Requirements
Social advertising repeatedly uses breathable, sweat-wicking and quick-dry, but these words are not a complete material specification. Define the activity, climate, garment area and expected drying behavior so the supplier knows what the product must do.
Odor control may come from fiber choice, fabric structure or a finish. Ask what route is proposed and whether its performance must remain after a stated number of washes.
Check Sweat Visibility by Color
Sweat marks are influenced by shade, surface finish, absorbency and fabric thickness. Grey, pastel and melange colors can behave differently from black even when the base fabric is shared. Test every launch color instead of approving one dark swatch.
Use a repeatable moisture amount and photograph the face of the fabric at timed intervals. The buyer can then compare initial visibility and drying speed with a defined reference.
Evaluate Wicking and Drying on the Garment
Fabric tests are useful, but seams, linings, pads and double-layer panels change moisture movement. Review the finished sample at the underband, crotch, waistband, underarm and back where heat commonly accumulates.
Record garment weight before and after a controlled wear or moisture test. Consistent timing and environmental conditions make sample revisions easier to compare.
Control Handfeel and Durability
A strong finish is not helpful if it creates a harsh handfeel or reduces stretch. Check softness, recovery, pilling and colorfastness together with the moisture claim. If an antimicrobial treatment is proposed, request the applicable test method and compliance documentation.
Wash testing should follow the care label intended for retail. Recheck odor, drying, appearance and dimensions after laundering rather than relying only on a new sample.
Write a Clear Approval Standard
State the approved fabric code, GSM, color, finish, test method and acceptance point in the specification. Keep a retained swatch from the approved lot when bulk production timing allows.
