How to Prepare an Activewear Tech Pack for Manufacturing

Why the Tech Pack Matters

A tech pack translates a product idea into information that a pattern maker, sample room and production team can follow. It reduces assumptions during quotation and sampling. It also gives the buyer a controlled record of what was approved for bulk production.

The document does not need elaborate graphic design. It needs clear drawings, measurable requirements and version control. A simple complete file is more useful than a beautiful presentation that omits construction or sizing details.

Add Technical Drawings

Include front and back flat drawings, plus side or internal views when they explain the construction. Show seam lines, panels, pockets, openings, zippers, drawcords, elastic, cups and other components. Use callouts for details that are too small to understand in the main drawing.

Reference photographs can support the flats, but they should not replace them. Mark exactly which feature from each reference should be followed so the manufacturer does not have to copy or interpret the whole image.

Create the Measurement Specification

List each point of measurement with a description, diagram reference and value for the sample size. Include tolerances and state whether measurements are taken relaxed, stretched or along a curve. For leggings, typical points include waist, rise, seat, thigh, inseam and opening. Tops require chest, length, shoulder, armhole, sleeve and neckline details as appropriate.

Add graded measurements when available. If grading will be developed by the manufacturer, state the target size range and market, then approve the grade rule before bulk production.

Specify Materials Construction and Artwork

The bill of materials should identify the main fabric, lining, mesh, elastic, thread, closures, pads and labels. Record composition, weight, color and supplier reference when known. Construction pages should identify seam and stitch requirements where they affect appearance or performance.

Provide vector artwork for logos and prints. State dimensions, color reference, application method and placement from fixed garment points. Include label wording, care symbols, hangtag files and packaging requirements in the same controlled package.

Manage Revisions

Give every tech pack a version number and date. Consolidate sample comments into the next revision instead of sending permanent instructions across several message threads. Mark changed fields so the supplier can verify that each update has been applied.
