Define the Skirt Silhouette First

An A-line skirt, box pleat, knife pleat and wrap overlay need different body and drape. The best fabric is not simply the stretchiest option; it must support the intended silhouette while moving comfortably on court.

Provide the skirt length, pleat construction, waistband, liner and target sport before the supplier proposes a knit or stretch-woven route.

Match Stretch to Pleat Behavior

Stretch can reduce restriction, but a very soft fabric may lose crisp pleat definition or flare unevenly after sitting. Evaluate pleat recovery after repeated compression, washing and movement.

Record stretch and recovery in both directions. The pattern grain and pleat direction should use the fabric behavior deliberately rather than assuming all four-way stretch materials respond equally.

Control Opacity and Color

White and light court colors need coverage testing in both the skirt and built-in short. Seams, pockets and labels can show through even when the loose fabric appears opaque.

Test wet appearance, perspiration and rubbing where applicable. Contrast trims and dark liners should be reviewed as a complete combination to prevent show-through or staining.

Coordinate the Outer Fabric and Liner

The skirt and inner short may use different fabrics, but their shrinkage, recovery and waistband behavior must work together. A heavy liner can pull on a light skirt, while a weak liner can ride up during play.

Run serves, lunges, side steps and ball-pocket tests on the finished sample. Observe liner movement, skirt return and waistband rotation.

Approve Construction and Care

Check pleat setting, hem waviness, seam extension, snagging and surface abrasion. Wash the complete skort using the intended care label and remeasure key points.

Send court activity, silhouette, color, liner, pocket direction, fabric handfeel, target quantity and reference photos in the inquiry so material and pattern decisions begin together.
