Use Cotton for the Right Activity

Cotton-spandex jersey can suit athleisure, warm-up pieces, low-intensity studio tops and casual sets where natural handfeel is more important than very fast drying. It is less suited to some high-sweat uses because cotton retains moisture.

Define the customer's activity, climate and expected wear time before comparing it with polyester, nylon or cellulosic alternatives.

Specify the Blend and Construction

Elastane percentage affects stretch but does not alone guarantee recovery. Yarn quality, stitch density, fabric weight and heat setting influence how the garment holds its shape.

Record cotton type where relevant, blend ratio, GSM, width, stretch and finishing. Heather effects may use additional fibers and should be included in the declared composition.

Evaluate Recovery and Bagging

Test knees, elbows, seat and necklines after repeated extension and wear. Cotton-rich knits can grow during use if the structure lacks sufficient recovery.

A stable waistband or cuff may require a different rib or elastic system. Test combined components so the body fabric is not stretched or gathered unevenly.

Control Shrinkage, Pilling and Color

Cotton can shrink, twist or change surface appearance after laundering. Measure length, width and spirality using the care route intended for the label.

Check pilling and colorfastness in every key shade. Deep cotton colors may show rubbing or fading differently from heather and pale colors.

Build a Realistic Product Claim

Describe softness, fiber content, weight and intended use accurately. Avoid presenting cotton as universally breathable or sustainable without defining the evidence and context.

For development, provide the product, fit, activity, GSM, stretch, wash route, color effect and quantity. The factory can then advise whether stocked jersey, custom dyeing or a different blend is practical.
