Activewear Preorder and Inventory Planning for New Brands

Plan activewear preorders and first inventory using focused styles, MOQ, size ratios, color depth, production timing, quality buffers and reorder data.

Primary topic: activewear inventory planningBy CCLIYA

Separate Demand Testing From Production

A preorder can provide demand signals, but it does not remove manufacturing lead time, minimum quantities or approval work. Set a realistic customer delivery window that includes sampling, material preparation, bulk sewing, inspection and freight.

Decide which orders are firm enough to support production. Likes, survey responses and unpaid reservations do not carry the same planning value as paid or deposit-backed demand.

Launch With a Focused Assortment

Every additional style and color divides the order and increases the chance of shallow inventory. Begin with products that share a clear customer and can be marketed together, such as a legging and sports bra set or a court skort and top.

Confirm MOQ per style and color before opening a preorder. A collection should not promise variants that cannot reach the supplier's production minimum.

Build a Size and Color Plan

Use prior sales, comparable products or a defined target-market assumption to set the size ratio. Record the logic so the ratio can be corrected after the first launch instead of repeated automatically.

Color demand is often concentrated. Protect hero colors with enough depth while keeping experimental shades controlled. Custom-dyed fabrics may require commitments beyond finished garment quantities, so clarify material minimums.

Allow for Approval and Quality Buffers

Do not schedule sales around an unapproved sample. Fit, color, logo and packaging must be confirmed before bulk timing becomes dependable. Leave room for inspection findings, replacement work and transport variation.

Define how customer communication will be handled if production changes. A transparent update process protects trust better than an unrealistic delivery promise.

Use Launch Data for Reorders

Track sell-through by style, color and size, along with returns and fit comments. Reorder decisions should use net demand rather than gross sales alone. Keep approved specifications stable when repeating a successful product.
